Purple Eagles Force 30 Turnovers In Loss To Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y.—The Niagara women's basketball team fell to Marist on Saturday by a score of 61-60 on the road.

First Quarter

Niagara jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the opening quarter as Niagara generated 22 shots while forcing 11 turnovers. Angel Parker was the leading scorer for the Purple Eagles in the first quarter as she had six points. Kylie Buckley and Shelby Fiddler each had three points in the quarter while Chardonnay Hartley and Alyssa Rossignol all had two points. Angel accounted for four the eight Niagara steals in the first quarter while Aaliyah Parker, Marlie Dickerson, Fiddler, and Buckley all had a steal. The Purple Eagles scored eight points off turnovers and 10 points in the paint. Niagara allowed just 13 field goals attempts in the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The Purple Eagles extended their lead in the second quarter as they outscored Marist 21-18 as they took 25 shots in the quarter. Destiny Strother was the leading scorer in the quarter as she had nine points on three three pointers. Aaliyah and Dickerson each had four points in the quarter while Amelia Strong and Ary Hicks each had two points. Niagara forced 10 turnovers while scoring 12 points off turnovers in the quarter. Niagara had seven steals with Aaliyah and Hicks each having two steals. Hartley, Angel, and Saige Glover each had a steal in the quarter.

At the half

Niagara led by 10 at the break while they forced 21 turnovers in the first half. Strother was the leading scorer for Niagara with nine points while Angel had six points. In total 10 Purple Eagles had points in the first half. Niagara 15 steals with Angel having a team high five steals.

Third Quarter

Marist started their comeback in the third quarter as they outscored Niagara 14-8. Buckley, Aaliyah, Strother, and Glover each had two points for Niagara. Niagara had three steals in the quarter as Hartley, Angel, and Glover each had one. Niagara outrebounded Marist in the quarter 13-8. The Purple Eagles had five offensive rebounds along with eight defensive rebounds. Angel and Glover each had a team high three rebounds in the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The Red Foxes completed their comeback late in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Purple Eagles 20-15 in the quarter. Niagara trailed by one with 10 seconds left and fed the ball inside to Strong who could not drain the game winning basket for the Purple Eagles. Angel Parker was the leading scorer in the fourth quarter with seven points while Strong had three, Hartley and Lore Porter had two and Glover had one.

Niagara Notes

·       Niagara forced 34 turnovers; it is their fourth game this season that they have forced 30+ turnovers.

·       The Purple Eagles had 19 steals which is the second most they have had this season. Angel had six to lead Niagara while eight Purple Eagles had a steal.

·       Niagara had 27 points off turnovers, it is their seventh time this season with 25+ points off turnovers. Niagara is averaging 21.4 points off turnovers per game.

·       The Purple Eagles has 30 points in the paint for the second straight game. They have had 30 or more points in the paint in eight games this season.

·       Niagara had 19 offensive rebounds along with 20 defensive rebounds. Hartley had a team high six rebounds while Strong, Angel, and Glover each had five rebounds.

·       Niagara took 77 shots; it is the seventh game this season with 70 or more shots in a game.
