NORTH EASTON, MASS. – The Purple Eagles suffered their second-consecutive setback with a 6-1 loss to Stonehill on Monday afternoon. The Purple Eagles lone brace was scored by senior
Asher Barnes.
Niagara drops to 0-3-1 overall on the season, while Stonehill improves to 1-1-2 on the year.
How it Happened
The opening marker was scored in the 12th minute of action when Stonehill beat Niagara's starting goalie
David Indra for the goal.
Two minutes later,
Felix Kogler would line up over the ball for a free kick an attempt to score the equalizer with a bullet of a shot on goal that was cleared away by Stonehill.
Matheus Spina would connect with the left woodwork in the 18th minute in an attempt to tie the game at one.
In the 21st minute of action, sophomore
Alberto Sanchez Cervera would get tripped up in the box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for NU. Team captain
Asher Barnes would successfully beat the keeper for the penalty goal, tying the game at 1-1.
Niagara would record a pair of shots prior to the end of the half as it looked to break the 1-1 stalemate, but both Kogler's and
Brady McNulty's attempts were off target.
The Skyhawks would retake the lead, 2-1, with a goal in the 52nd minute of play and on the ensuing kickoff, McNulty would find his way downfield and attempt an equalizer, but his shot was once again off target.
The Skyhawks would double their advantage in the 56th minute with their third tally of the contest.
Indra would make a save in the 63rd minute but Stonehill would send the rebound into the back of the net for its fourth tally of the contest, taking a three-goal advantage over NU.
After surrendering the fourth goal of the game, Indra would make a pair of saves in the 68th and 70th minutes to keep NU down by three.
Niagara would get its second penalty kick opportunity, this time Kogler would attempt the shot for NU sending the ball to the left post, but the Stonehill goalie would dive and make the stop to keep the score at 4-1 in favor of the Skyhawks.
Stonehill would use the momentum from the PK save to score its fifth marker of the contest with 13 minutes to go in the contest.
The Skyhawks scored their sixth and final goal of the contest in the 84th minute of play.

• Niagara is now 1-1 all-time against Stonehill.
• Barnes' goal in the 21st minute is sixth of his career and first since last seasons match against Cornell.
