Niagara Earns 1-1 Road Draw at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Niagara (0-6-2, 0-1-1 MAAC) earned a 1-1 draw at Marist (3-3-2, 1-0-1) in MAAC men's soccer action on a rainy Saturday night at Tenney Stadium.

Dominic Cintra would tie the game in the 61st minute with his first goal of the season, but Jamie Barry, who finished with six saves, would be the one to deny the Red Foxes the win with a diving save on a Marist penalty kick late in the second half.

How it Happened
Despite an early shot from Niagara's Felix Kogler, neither team could create much in terms of chances in the first 20 minutes of action as rain fell at Tenney Stadium, that is until the Red Foxes scored the opening tally in the 21st minute from inside the 18-yard box, slipping past the Niagara back line and beating Barry for the goal.

Alberto Sanchez Cervera would find Kogler in the middle of the field and the transfer would launch his shot attempt one off the crossbar, keeping Marist up by one with less than 20-minutes to play in the first half. Kogler would have another shot go wide moments later.

Barry would make his first save with five minutes remaining in the half to keep NU within one. The sophomore would quickly get the ball out and allow Niagara to attack the Red Foxes back line, resulting in a free-kick from about 30-yards away, however, nothing came of the Purple Eagle effort.

With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Gianluca Del Priore sent a free kick into the box, finding the head of Kevin Payne, but the effort would go wide of the goal, keeping NU in a 1-0 hole heading into the break.

The start of the second half was all Marist as the Red Foxes looked to extend their lead, however, in the 61st minute, Niagara would find the equalizer as Asher Barnes would find Cintra for the Purple Eagle goal.

Marist would have a go ahead attempt in the 70th minute blocked by a Niagara defender, followed by a pair of shots just slightly off target in the 74th and 75th minute of play.

The Red Foxes would keep the tempo up over the next few minutes, testing Barry with a pair of headers, but the sophomore keeper would keep Marist scoreless in the second half.

Cintra would be sent off in the final 10-minutes of play, forcing Niagara to play the last six and a half minutes a man down.

Barry would deny a game-winning penalty kick in the 87th minute following a Niagara handball that gave Marist the late chance.

The Purple Eagles would escape Poughkeepsie with a 1-1 draw.
