NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara softball program saw its 2023 season come to a close Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to Rider. The Broncs won game one 4-0, followed by a 4-1 win in game two.
Game 1 Recap: Niagara 0, Rider 4
• All four Bronc runs came in the fourth, the first on a RBI single, then a pair of doubles drove in three more off Niagara starter,
Maddie Hickingbottom.

Samantha Hare doubled to deep center to start the fourth, but would be stranded at third to end the inning, keeping NU off the board.
• In the seventh,
Sophia Marrero doubled to right to get the rally started for Niagara.
•
Madison LaPenta would come in to run for Marrero, advancing to third on a flyout to left by
Riley Crum for the second out.
•
Maggie Kellner would pinch hit for freshman
Kaylee Haines and line out to second to end the contest.
Niagara Notes
• Hare's double was her sixth of the season, and second in as many games.
• Marrero's double was the freshman's sixth of the season.
• Hickingbottom struck out seven to finish the season with 151, fourth most by a Purple Eagle in a season.
Game 2 Recap: Niagara 1, Rider 4
• Aftr falling into an early 2-0 hole,
Lindsay Mayo would hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first to cut the Bronc lead in half, 2-1.
• Niagara starter,
Cara Leone would slow down the Bronc offense in the second and third before giving up one in the fourth to allow Rider to take a 3-1 lead.
•
Emma Collee would pitch the fifth, allowing one run to score which put NU down three, 4-1.
•
Julia Thompson would finish the game in the circle for Niagara, punching out one in 2.0 innings of work.
Niagara Notes
• All of Niagara's three hits in the contest came from the top-four in the lineup.
• Hare recorded her seventh double of the season and third in three games.
• Myshrall got her first hit in three games with a single in the bottom of the fourth.
• Mayo's homer was her second of the season, tying her for the team lead with Marrero.
• LaPenta stole her third bag of the season, finishing the year three -for-four on stolen base attempts.
