NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara was topped by Canisius 13-2 in game one and 7-0 in game two of Monday afternoon's MAAC softball doubleheader from the Niagara Softball Field.
Game 1 Recap: Niagara 2, Canisius 13
• The Golden Griffins scored the first run of the game in the first inning with a double down the left field line to score the runner from second.
• Canisius would strike for four runs on one swing of the bat in the third to take a 5-0 lead over
Maddie Hickingbottom and the Purple Eagles.
• Niagara would get two back in the bottom half of the inning, one via a
Samantha Hare sacrifice fly to bring home
Hannah Mingle from third, followed by a
Sophia Marrero single up the middle to plate
Lindsay Mayo from second.
• Canisius would answer with six runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth to coast to the 13-2 win in five innings.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara's top two hitters in the order, Mayo and
Kaity McInall went 2-for-4 at the plate. Mayo's double was the lone extra-base hit for NU, her team-leading eighth double of the season.
• Mingle walked twice in the contest and now has eight free passes on the season.
• Hickingbottom struck out five Griffs in 3.2 innings of work.
Game 2 Recap: Niagara 0, Canisius 7
• After
Cara Leone tossed two innings of scoreless softball to start the contest, the Golden Griffins jumped the senior right hander for five in the third on seven hits.
• Canisius would add another two runs in the fifth, via a home run to straight-away center, giving the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Jaden Swiatek got NU its first hit of the contest with a single in the bottom of the fifth.
• Niagara would collect a total of four hits in the contest without scoring a run.
Niagara Notes
• Hickingbottom came on in relief of Leone in the fourth, striking out two to move her total to seven on the day which gives her 128 strikeouts on the season, one shy of Joni Sontrop's 1995 mark of 129 for fifth most in a season by Purple Eagle.
• Julia Thomsposn was the lone Niagara pitcher to keep the Griffs off the board Monday afternoon, pitching two innings of shutout ball in the second game.

Kennedy Laird made her third start behind the plate for NU this season, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

• Niagara is set to close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday when it hosts St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m.
