All 13 Purple Eagles Score As Niagara Rolls Past Siena By 24

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara women's basketball downed Siena at home on Thursday night by a score of 86-62.
Game Recap
First Quarter
  • The first quarter was a back and forth opening 10 minutes as the teams combined for 41 points with the lead changing hands six times. Niagara ended the quarter with a 21-20 lead and never looked back.
  • Jade Rutledge led the team with eight points as she also pulled two boards. Ary Hicks opened the game strong as she had four points. Sydney Faulcon went 2-2 from the field and had four points.
  • Niagara scored 12 points in the pain along with nine second chance points. Niagara had eight boards including four on offensive side.
  • The Purple Eagles drew seven fouls in the quarter while committing just two. Niagara went 7-8 from the free throw line in the quarter.
Second Quarter
  • In the second quarter the Purple Eagles built on their lead as they outscored the Saints 24-16 and went to the locker room with a 45-36.
  • Aaliyah Parker scored a game high eight points in the stanza while notching one assist, one steal, and one rebound. Brooklyn Jones tied Aaliyah with eight points as she went 3-4 from the field including 1-1 from three.
  • Niagara forced seven turnovers in the quarter with three steals and turned it into 10 points. The Purple Eagles once again pulled down eight rebounds and had six second chance points.
  • The Purple Eagles went to the paint once again in the second quarter as they had 12 points in the paint and 24 points in the paint in the first half.
  • Niagara shot 48.6% in the first half while nine players had points.
Third Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles pulled ahead in the third quarter as they outscored Siena 21-10 and had a 66-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Hicks was the leading scorer in the third quarter as she had six points on 3-3 shooting. Saige Glover was right behind her as she had five points in just over five and a half minutes on the floor.
  • Niagara outrebounded the Saints 13-5 in the frame as Glover pulled down a game high four rebounds. Niagara had 10 second chance points on seven offensive rebounds.
  • 18 of the 21 points in the third came from the bench as Angel Parker had three of her seven the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • In the fourth Niagara scored 20 points with 15 of the points coming from the bench. The starting played a combined 10 minutes as Rutledge played 8:35 and scored five points.
  • Shelby Fiddle led Niagara in the frame with six points as she hit back-to-back threes. Marlie Dickerson and Amelia Strong both had three points in the frame.
  • Despite the big lead which was a big as 27 in the quarter, Niagara still outrebounded the Saints 12-8 in the frame.
  • In the second half Niagara outscored the Saints 41-26 with the bench providing 33 points.
Niagara Notes
  • Niagara had four players in double figures scoring as Rutledge scored a team high 13 points. Hicks had 12, Brooklyn Jones had 11 points in just over 24 minutes while Glover had 10 points.
  • The Purple Eagles had 54 points from the bench which is a season high. All 13 players that played scored multiple points.
  • Niagara forced 23 turnovers in the game and scored 24 points of turnovers.
  • The Purple Eagles pulled down 41 boards with 20 coming on the offensive side. Niagara had 33 second chance points which is a season high. Niagara averages 14.7 second chance points this season.
  • Niagara also topped its season average in fast break points. Against Siena they had 15, this season they average 12.6 fast break points.
  • With 11 points in the game, Jones tied her career high that was set on Jan. 12 at Fairfield. He set a new career high with eight rebounds.
  • Niagara leads the MAAC in offensive rebounds (16.3), turnover margin (9.56), steals (417), and steals per game (15.44).
  • It is the fourth time this season Niagara has scored 80 or more points in a game. They are 3-1 in those games. 86 points is a new season high for Niagara, it is the most points in a game since they scored 87 on Jan. 9, 2022 against Canisius. It is the first time they scored over 85 points at home since Feb. 10, 2022 against Marist in which they scored 85.
  • The Purple Eagles are 16-3 this season when they scored 60 or more points. They are also 13-2 this season when leading at halftime.
  • Niagara finished February 5-2 and have opened March 1-0.
  • The Purple Eagles now sit at 15 MAAC wins which is once again a new program record. The record was 13 prior to this season.
  • The Purple Eagles are one win away from earning the second seed heading into the MAAC Championships. Niagara has been a one seed just once in the 1992-93 season. Niagara can finish no lower than third, they have been a third seed five times (2005, 2004, 2003, 2000, 1994).
  • Niagara holds the tiebreaker with Quinnipiac as they swept this season.

  • The Purple Eagles close out the regular season on Saturday as they host Mount St. Mary's at 2 PM. Prior to the game Niagara will honor Faulcon, Nickelle O'Neil, Angel, and Yelle for Senior Day.
