Purple Eagles Fly Past Griffs For Season Sweep

Buffalo, N.Y.—The Niagara women's basketball traveled to Downtown Buffalo in search of its 11th MAAC win and a win over Battle of the Bridge foe Canisius. Niagara earned a 75-58 win over the Griffs to sweep the season series.
Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Niagara opened the first quarter with a 21-17 lead in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Purple Eagles opened the game by forcing six turnovers with four steals. Jade Rutledge led the way with two steals while Aaliyah Parker and Angel Parker each were credited with one.
  • Angel went 3-3 from the field with all three being from three as she led the Purple Eagles with nine points in the first quarter.
  • Niagara pulled down 12 rebounds with five being on the offensive side, Canisius was limited to just five boards.
Second Quarter
  • Both teams scored 18 points in the second quarter as Niagara went to the locker room with 39-35 lead.
  • In the second quarter, Aaliyah had a game high 12 points while collecting two rebounds, she also one steal.
  • Niagara forced six turnovers in the quarter and had 12 points off turnovers.
  • Angel had four points in the frame while notching three assists. Sydney Faulcon had the other two points in the frame while pulling down two rebounds.
Third Quarter
  • Niagara started building its lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Griffs 18-10 in the third.
  • Lore Porter led the way in the third as she hit a pair of threes to have six points. Aaliyah tallied just three points as she had an old fashion three point play. Angel ended the third quarter with a half court shot as the time expired.
  • In the third quarter, the Purple Eagles recorded five blocks with Rutledge having two. Aaliyah, Faulcon, and Saige Glover each had one in the frame.
  • Niagara's bench had 10 points while also holding the Griffs to 3-14 shooting.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles closed out the Griffs in the final 10 minutes as they outscored the Griffs 18-13 as most the starters played limited minutes.
  • Ary Hicks played the full quarter and dished out six assists while having a point. Aaliyah added seven to her total as she finished with a game high 28 points.
  • Niagara had another three blocks in the fourth as Glover had two and Rutledge notched her fourth of the game.
  • The Purple Eagle lead grew to a game high 22 with 5:26 left in the fourth.
Niagara Notes
  • Aaliyah had 28 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double of the season. She is now averaging 17.6 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game. She leads the MAAC in both categories.
  • Angel had 16 points in the contest while pulling down four boards and earning seven assists.
  • Niagara had 25 turnovers in the game while forcing 22 from the Griffs. It is the first time this season Niagara turned the ball over more than its opponent. Niagara scored 27 points off turnovers while limiting Canisius to 20.
  • The Purple Eagles scored 38 points in the paint, Niagara has now scored 30 or more points in the paint in six of the last seven games. They average 29.6 points per game in the paint.
  • Niagara pulled down 42 rebounds and held Canisius to just 27. 16 of the Niagara rebounds were offensive, Niagara turned the rebounds into 20 second chance points.
  • For the 15th time this season, Niagara scored more than 60 points, in those games they are 12-3 this season.
  • Niagara shot 48.3% from the field and held Canisius to 34.6%, Niagara is 4-0 this season when they shoot better then its opponent.
  • Both Angel and Hicks had seven assists while as a team they had 18, Canisius had 13. Niagara is 7-0 this season when they have more assists.
  • Niagara is now 9-2 this season after leading at the break.
  • The Purple Eagles have now broken the tie with Canisius in the Battle of the Bridge as Niagara earned two points and lead 13-11 this season.
  • Niagara has swept the Golden Griffs for the second straight season as they have won the last four matchups. Niagara has also won five of the last six games.
