Fiske Makes 33 Saves In Non-Conference Loss To Miami (OH)

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara hockey team fell on Saturday to NCHC opponent Miami (OH) 3-0 as the teams split the weekend series.

First Period

The RedHawks came out of the gate looking for revenge for Niagara's 4-1 win on Friday night as they had 15 shots in the first period. Niagara netminder Jarrett Fiske turned away all 15 shots that he saw.

The Purple Eagles won 10 of 18 faceoffs in the first period.

Second Period

Less than five minutes into the second period Miami (OH) scored their first goal of the game on a broken play in front of the Niagara crease.

Fiske made 12 saves in the period while the Purple Eagles won 14 faceoffs in the period.

Third Period

Shots were tied at eight in the third period, but Niagara could not get on the board.

The RedHawks scored a pair of empty net goals at the 18:26 and 18:36 marks to close out the game.

Niagara Notes

·       Niagara allowed just two Miami (OH) shots on the RedHawks two power plays.

·       The Purple Eagles blocked 14 shots with Ethan Lund having a team high three blocks.

·       Fiske made 33 saves in the game, it was his second straight 30+ save game and the fourth of the season.

·       Niagara won 39 faceoffs and had a winning percentage of 63.9 as Gleb Prohorenkovs went 14-4 in the circle with a 77.8 wining percentage.

·       Niagara had 21 shots on goal with Noah Hackett having a team high three.

·       It is the seventh time this season Niagara has had two or less penalties.

·       This game closes out calendar year 2023 for Niagara, the Purple Eagles won 16 games in 2023 including three in the Atlantic Hockey postseason.
