Purple Eagles Shine on First Day of Mercyhurst Fall Classic

Niagara Sits in Second, Thurston Leads Individuals

ERIE, PA – The Niagara University bowling team kicked off its inaugural season, winning three of four matches on day one of the Mercyhurst Fall Classic at Rolling Meadow Lanes. The Purple Eagles picked up wins over Daemen, Mount Aloysius, and D'Youville.

Senior kegler Brianna Thurston is atop the individual leaderboard with a five-game average of 200.80. Sophomore Emily Brock sits fifth after posting a five-game average of 192.00, and junior Dana Murata is in ninth with 180.60.

As a team, Niagara sits in second place behind Wilmington College with an 182.7 team average over five traditional matches.

Game 1: Niagara 881, Daemen 812

The Purple Eagles earned the first victory in program history with an 881-812 win over WNY for Daemen. Freshman Kaelynn Weber led the team with a game-high 209 in her collegiate debut.

Game 2: Niagara 941, Mount Aloysius 760

Niagara won its second game in a row with a 941-760 win over Mount Aloysius. Thurston led NU with a 223.

Game 3: Niagara 888, Roberts Wesleyan 904

The lone Purple Eagle loss on the day came against Roberts Wesleyan by the score of 904-888. Brock posted a team-best score of 206.

Game 4: Niagara 959, D'Youville 802

The Purple and White bounced back against D'Youville with a 959-802 victory over the Saints. Senior Paige Snook bowled a team-best 215 in her first game of the day.
