Niagara Soars Past Canisius

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (3-8-3, 3-3-2 MAAC) scored three times in the second half to earn a 3-0 win over Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius (1-11-5, 0-6-3) on a rainy Wednesday night on Monteagle Ridge.

Freshmen Thomas Brooks and Gianluca Del Priore, and transfer Felix Kogler found the back of the net for NU. Sophomore Jamie Barry made a pair of saves for his fourth clean sheet of the season.

How it Happened
Neither squad could find the back of the net in the first half as Niagara outshot Canisius 12 to 1 during the first 45-minutes of action. Unfortunately, for the Purple and White, only one of those shots went on target, a shot from Alberto Sanchez Cervera in the 34th minute of play.

The second half would be much different for Niagara as both of its first two shots went on target, with the second one finding the back of the net. Dominic Cintra found Brooks with a touch and Brook netted his first career goal in the 49th minute of play.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of Niagara until the 67th minute when a Purple Eagle corner led to Del Priore sneaking one past the Golden Griffin goalie to give NU the brace.

Kogler would put the game away in the 81st minute as he rifled one into the top right corner of the goal.

Barry would be tested one time as Canisius would look to make a comeback, but the sophomore goalie made his second and final save of the night to secure the win for NU.

Niagara Notes
• The Purple Eagles recorded season-highs in points (8), goals (3), assists (2), shots (23), shots on goal (8), and corners (14).
• Cintra was credited with two assists in the win, the first two on the season for the freshman.
• Kogler now leads NU with four goals and eight points.
• Barry notched his fourth clean sheet of the season and is now second in the conference with a .769 save percentage and saves with 60.
