Niagara Concludes YSU Penguin Classic

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The Niagara University bowling team fell to Nebraska, Duquesne, and Valparaiso on the final day of the Youngstown State Penguin Classic to finish sixth overall in the team standings.

Sophomore
Emily Brock continued her excellent weekend with a team-high baker frame average of 20. Freshman
Kaelynn Weber finished Sunday with an average of 19.16, followed by senior
Brianna Thurston with a 18.66.

Baker Match 1: Niagara 892, Nebraska 909
Â
The Purple Eagles' day began with a match against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska by the final score of 909-892. Niagara found themselves in a hole after game one as Nebraska took a 77-pin hole. Despite taking the next two games 203-190 and 178-170, Niagara still sat trailed by 56 heading into the final two games. Nebraska took the fourth game 200-194 and with NU took the final game 201-156, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Cornhuskers advantage.

Baker Game 2: Niagara 1017, Duquesne 1101
Â
Duquesne edged Niagara by 84 pins in the second to last baker match of the weekend for NU. Duquense won the first three games to build a 695-583 advantage over the Purple Eagles. Niagara would take the final two games by a combined score of 434-406, but the Duquene lead was too much to overcome.

Valpo would sweep NU in a best-of-seven match to decide fifth place by a combined final score of 780-682.
