JERSEY CITY, NJ – Niagara (1-7-3, 1-2-2 MAAC) traveled to the Garden State on Wednesday afternoon and played to a 0-0 draw against Saint Peter's (2-5-3, 1-2-1 MAAC).
How it Happened
The Peacocks opened the contest with two shots in the opening minute and a half, both of which were no threat to sophomore keeper
Jamie Barry.
The Purple Eagles would take their first corner in the ninth minute of action, which led to a chance for
Kevin Payne to find the back of the net, but his shot attempt was swatted away by the Peacock goalie, leading to a second corner for NU and another chance for Payne, but this time his shot went wide for a goal kick.
Saint Peter's took a total of seven shots in the first half, none of which were on goal.
Dominic Cintra,
Asher Barnes,
Giovanni Covelli, and
Piercarlo Arghittu, all had shots on goal met by the Saint Peter's keeper. Barnes, Covelli, and Arghittu's chances all came in a four-minute span to end the half.
Barry would have to make his first save of the game in the 47th minute, stopping a rebound effort from the Peacocks. The Dublin, Ireland product would once again be put to the test in the 60th minute, stopping a shot to his left to keep the game scoreless.
Niagara's first shot on goal of the half came off the foot of
Matheus Spina in the 71st minute. Spina tried to squeeze one into the left side, but the Saint Peter's netminder made the save.
Barry would make another save, this time to his right in the 77th minute, leading to a chance for NU on the other end as Cintra took a chance, but his shot was also stopped by the opposition.
In the 82nd minute, Barry would stop another rebound effort by the Peacocks, before making his fifth and final save of the afternoon in the 83rd minute of play.
Covelli would take Niagara's final shot in the 85th minute, but his game-winning attempt went wide.
