Hicks Scores Career High 15 Points As Purple Eagles Down Quinnipiac

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara Women's Basketball team hosted Quinnipiac in front of a packed Gallagher Center on kid's day. The Purple Eagles came from behind in the fourth quarter to win 67-64 over the Bobcats.
Game Recap
First Quarter
  • In the opening frame the Purple Eagles outscored the Bobcats 16-12 to open the game.
  • Angel Parker led the way for the Purple Eagles in the first as she had a game high six points. Both Ary Hicks and Amelia Strong each had four points in the first while Saige Glover hit a pair for free throws.
  • Niagara forced 10 turnovers to open the game while registering five steals. Glover made a difference on the defensive side as she had a game high three steals to start the game.
  • The Purple Eagles led for 5:31 of the first quarter while the game was tied twice to start the game.
Second Quarter
  • The second quarter was back and forth as Quinnipiac edged out the Purple Eagles 14-13.
  • Lore Porter notched six points in the second quarter as she hit a pair of three pointers back to back. Sydney Faulcon had four points while Brooklyn Jones had two and Glover had one point.
  • Niagara had seven points off turnovers in the second while also having four points in the paint. The bench had 10 points while Quinnipiac had just four points from their bench.
  • At half, Niagara led 29-26 while seven Purple Eagles had points with Parker and Porter each had a team high six points.
Third Quarter
  • In the third quarter, the Purple Eagles were outscored 23-16 as the Purple Eagles shot 7-18 from the field and forced five turnovers.
  • Glover had a team high four points in the frame while Nickelle O'Neil and Ary Hicks each had three points.
  • Despite being outscored in the quarter, the Purple Eagles held the lead for 4:11 of the quarter while the Bobcats had the lead for just 3:56.
Fourth Quarter
  • Niagara turned up the heat in the fourth as they outscored the Bobcats 22-15 on the back of Parker and Hicks who combined for 18 points on 6-10 shooting and 4-6 shooting from the field.
  • The Purple Eagles forced 10 turnovers with O'Neil tallying two steals and Strong notching a steal. O'Neil also had one block in the quarter.
  • As a team the Purple Eagles went 6-12 from the field and from the line as they secured the game.
  • Of the 22 Niagara points in the fourth, 11 of them came off turnovers along with four in both the paint and on second chance opportunities.
Niagara Notes
  • Hicks scored 15 points on 6-9 shooting including being 3-3 from three point land. It is a new career high for Hicks, her previous high was nine against St. Bonaventure on Dec. 2, 2022.
  • The Purple Eagles played in front of a crowd of 1,103 which is a new high this season at home.
  • This was just the second time since 2003 that the Purple Eagles beat Quinnipiac, the last being on Feb. 27, 2021
  • Parker had 19 points in the win which brings her averaged to 15.5 points per game which is still third in the MAAC.
  • Niagara still leads the MAAC in turnover margin at 9.38 after forcing 32 turnovers on Thursday. The Purple Eagles have forced 30 or more turnovers in five of the last six games. This season Niagara is scoring 24.2 points off turnovers.
  • Jade Rutledge returned to the lineup for the Purple Eagles as she pulled down four boards in her first action since Dec. 7 against Buffalo.
