LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Niagara women's golf team finished in seventh place at the MAAC Championships, which concluded on Sunday. The team shot an overall score of 987 (+123) over three rounds.
"We were projected to finish last in the conference poll and we landed comfortably in seventh with chances at moving up," said head coach
Selena Borek. "We have a very young team with mostly underclassmen as our travel team. Although I know more was possible, there were some fantastic highs from the event; Sriya broke the program scoring record, Marina often had a full nine at even par or just over it and Alea was in contention for a top-10 medal for the entire tournament."
Alea Griffith tied for 20
th place. She shot 81 (+9) in the final round to finish with a total score of 238 (+22).
Sriya Machiraju carded an 84 (+12) in the final round to finish with a total score of 241 (+25). She placed 26
th.
Marina Heister tied for 33
rd place. She shot 87 (+15) in the third round for an overall score of 251 (+35).
Susan Leone finished in 39
th place. She carded an 82 (+10), her best round of the tournament, on the final 18 holes. She had a total score of 260 (+44).
"I am incredibly proud of Susan, our graduating team captain," Borek said. "She has dedicated so much time and energy to her team. She finished her final round +3 and had an absolute blast this last round, which was the goal. We will miss her dearly and can't wait to see her spectating next year!"
Isabel Mabry placed 42
nd. She shot 97 (+25) in the third round for a total score of 273 (+57).
