Purple Eagles Drop Doubleheader to St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, NY – St. Bonaventure (5-17) shut down the Niagara (4-9) offense, outscoring the Purple Eagles 12-0 across two games to earn the sweep of Thursday afternoon's doubleheader from Joyce Field in Olean.

Game 1 Recap: L, 0-8
• St. Bonaventure opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run.
• A four-run second inning made it a 6-0 game in favor of the Bonnies.  
Cara Leone took over for Maddie Hickingbottom to start the third. Hickingbottom lasted 2.0 innings, allowing six runs on six hits. The transfer struck out three before exiting the contest.
• SBU added a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning, increasing its lead to 7-0 going into the fifth inning.
• The game came to a close after the fifth with Bona leading 8-0.
Kelsey Harrigan picked up two of Niagara's three hits in the contest, and Riley Crum got the other.
• Leone finished the game with 2.2 innings pitched, five hits, and two runs, one of which was earned, allowed.  

Game 2 Recap: L, 0-4
• Crum got the start in game two, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings before surrendering four runs in the fourth, giving the Bonnies a 4-0 lead.
Julia Thompson took over in the circle with two outs in the third, ending Crum's day in the circle. Crum finished with 3.2 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, three walks, and fanning four.
• Niagara could only muster one hit in game two, a Harrigan single in the third.
• The Purple and White left three runners on base in the contest.

Niagara Notes
• Harrigan finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate and now has a team-best 17 hits this season.
• The Niagara pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts through two games. Crum and Thompson struck out seven Bona batters in game two, recording Niagara's fifth game this season with five or more K's.
• The Purple Eagles had a season-high three errors in game two.
• Niagara has scored one run over the last 24 innings of action.

Up Next
• The Purple and White open league play at home this weekend when it welcomes Marist and Quinnipiac to Monteagle Ridge.
• The twin bill between NU and the Red Foxes is scheduled for a noon start on Saturday, April 2.
• Niagara and Quinnipiac will take the field for their doubleheader on Sunday, March 3, at 11 a.m.
