Purple Eagles Fall to Army For First Road Loss of the Season

West Point, N.Y.—The Niagara Hockey team dropped its first road game of the season as they fell to Army at Tate Rink by a score 3-0.
Game Recap
First Period
  • For the second time this season Niagara started the game on the power play, however this time the Purple Eagles could not convert.
  • 15:28 into the opening period, Army opened the scoring as they snuck one past Chad Veltri to take the 1-0 lead.
  • Niagara could not respond in the opening period despite winning the faceoff battle 8-5 and getting 10 saves from Veltri.
Second Period
  • In the second period neither team found the back of the net on the 17 combined shots. Veltri turned away 10 shots while Niagara tallied seven shots on goal.
  • Niagara went 2-2 on the penalty kill in the second period as they limited the Black Knights to just three shots.
Third Period
  • Army doubled their lead in the third period. At the 6:28 mark they scored their second goal of the game.
  • The Black Knights put the game out of reach with just under three minutes remaining in the third as they scored an empty goal.
  • Niagara tallied nine shots on goal in the third period, while Veltri also made nine saves.
  • The Purple Eagles also won the faceoff battle in the third as they won 11 of 20 draws.
Niagara Notes
  • The Purple Eagles blocked 17 shots on the night, Jordan Wishman made his return to the lineup and blocked a team high three shots. Lucas Bahn, Albin Nilsson, and Josef Mysak all blocked two shots.
  • Casey Carreau led the team with four shots while Olivier Gauthier and Jason Pineo had three shots apiece.
  • This is the seventh game this season in which Veltri has made 25 or more saves.
  • Niagara moves to 5-1-0 on the road this season which is still the best road record in the AHA and the most road wins in the conference.
