NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – After a three-week hiatus, the Purple Eagles are finally back in action this Sunday when they travel to Battle of the Bridge Rival Canisius for a noon tip at the Koessler Athletic Center.
Last Time Out:
• The Purple Eagles erased a 16-point deficit to pick up a 73-70 win over Manhattan Sunday, Dec. 19
•
Maddy Yelle lead the Purple and White with a career-high 20 points. The senior finished 9-for-10 from the line to set her new career-best in free throws made.
•
Angel Parker finished with five assists, bringing her streak of five or more helpers to eight straight games. The Cheektowaga, NY native, also recorded her fourth game with six or more steals.
•
Sydney Faulcon finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
•
Ally Haar made seven shots from the field, helping her reach double figures for the third time this season, with 18 points.
• Niagara finished the game with a season-best 36 forced turnovers. It was the second time the Purple Eagles' opponent finished with 30-plus turnovers this season.
• Niagara finished the game with a 37.9 field goal percentage and 67.9 percent clip from the line.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara leads the MAAC in offensive scoring, averaging 70.1 points per contest.
Angel Parker leads the way for NU, scoring 15.6 points per game.
• The Purple Eagles also lead the league in steals per game (13.9), turnover margin (4.8), forced turnovers (26.2), offensive rebounds (16.2), and assists (13.7) per game.
• While leading the team in scoring, Parker also leads Niagara in assists (5.8) and steals (4.7) per game. Both are the best in the MAAC.
• Yelle leads the Purple and White and MAAC with a 54.1 percent mark from the field. The senior has made 40-of-74 shots this season.
• Haar leads the team with 13 made 3-pointers, followed by Parker and
Lore Porter with 12 made from beyond the arc.
• Three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week,
Aaliyah Parker, has grabbed a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game this season. The freshman has recorded two games with 10-plus boards, including a season-best 13 at Oakland on Nov. 12.
• Faulcon recorded her first career double-double against Saint Peter's on Dec. 17. The junior finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
•
Kyra Grimshaw posted a career-best 14 points and five rebounds in NU's loss to the Peacocks.
• As a team, Niagara is shooting 36.3 percent from the floor, 24.8 percent from 3-point range, and 67.7 percent from the line.
• The Purple Eagles grab 36.9 rebounds per contest, while its opponents snag 42.4 caroms a game.
Series History
• Niagara and Canisius will meet for the 99th time on Sunday, with the Golden Griffins leading the all-time series 61-37.
• The Purple Eagles' last win at Canisius took place on Jan. 27, 2013, by the final score of 62-49.
• Niagara has won two of the last five meetings with its rival, including a win on Jan. 27, 2020, by the final score of 81-62.
