Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts Niagara to Win over Siena

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – A 17-4 run in the fourth quarter lifted Niagara (7-10, 4-5 MAAC) over Siena (5-11, 5-3 MAAC) 82-67 Thursday evening in MAAC women's basketball action from the Gallagher Center on the campus of Niagara University. 

Angel Parker scored a game-high 23 points., going 8-for-14 from the floor while adding three rebounds, four assists, and seven steals in the win. Aaliyah Parker finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five steals in her first career start. Ally Haar connected on a team-high three 3-pointers to finish with 16 points. 

Game Recap
First Quarter
• Niagara scored the first three points of the game with a jumper from Haar and a made free throw from Maddy Yelle
• Siena would tie the game at three at the 7:54 mark before taking the slim 5-3 lead 1:30 later. 
• From there, the game would be tied three more times in the first quarter before the Saints scored the final layup of the frame to take a 12-11 lead into quarter number two. 
• Niagara shot just 18.8 percent in the first, compared to 38.5 percent for Siena. 

Second Quarter
• Siena went up 14-11 with a layup, but Angel would connect on a 3-pointer on the ensuing Niagara possession to tie the game at 14-14. 
• The Saints would answer with a 5-2 run to take a 19-16 lead over Niagara with 8:11 to play in the first half. 
• An 11-0 run over the next 2:47 by Niagara gave the Purple and White a 27-19 lead. 
• The run was highlighted by six points from Angel and a 3-pointer from freshman Lexie Roe
• Siena would spend the final three minutes of the second quarter working its way back. The Saints outscored NU 14-5 in that span to take a 33-32 lead with 40 seconds to go. 
Olivia Mason tied the game at 33 after going 1-for-2 at the charity stripe. 

Third Quarter
• The third would start with a 14-4 run by the Purple Eagles, giving the home team a 10-point advantage, 47-37, with 7:50 on the clock. 
• Aaliyah scored nine of Niagara's 14 points during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers. 
• Siena would use the next 3:23 of game time to score 11 unanswered and tie the game at 47-47. 
• A layup by Kyra Grimshaw with 3:25 on the clock gave Niagara a 49-48 lead over the Saints, one it would not relinquish for the remaining 13-plus minutes of the contest. 
• The Purple Eagles would outscore Siena 11-8 in the quarters final 3:35 to take a 58-56 lead into the fourth. 

Fourth Quarter
• Siena would outscore NU 9-7 in the first 4:29 of the fourth stanza, tying the game at 65-all. 
• From there, Niagara would run away the game, scoring 17 points compared to just four for the visiting Saints. 
• The Purple Eagles scored 13-unanswered before Siena scored a basket to make the score 78-65 with 47 seconds left. 
• Aaliyah and Angel combined for 11 points in the final four minutes of action, but two free throws by Maddy Yelle sealed the win for the Purple Eagles. 

Niagara Notes
• Niagara snapped Siena's five-game win streak with the win. 
• Aaliyah made her first start as a Purple Eagle after playing 15 games off the bench. 
• The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week reached 20 points for the second time on the season. 
• Angel scored 23 points, her fifth game with 20 or more points, and her seventh game of the season with five or more steals. 
Olivia Mason finished with seven points and seven rebounds. 
• Niagara finished with a season-high 45.9 percent field goal percentage, while its 36.8 percent mark from 3-point land was the team's second-best outing on the season. 
• The Purple Eagles finished 19-for-23 (82.6%) at the line.
• Niagara forced 32 Siena turnovers and turned them into 31 points on the other end.
• The Purple and White have now forced 30-plus turnovers in four games this season. 
• The Purple Eagles improve to 5-3 at the Gallagher Center this season.
