NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (5-8, 2-3 MAAC) fell to Rider (5-10, 3-3 MAAC) by the final score of 92-70 Saturday afternoon in MAAC women's basketball action from the Gallagher Center.
Kyra Grimshaw led Niagara with 20 points and seven rebounds, followed by
Angel Parker, who added 18 points, five assists, and four steals in the loss.
Game Recap
First Quarter
• After
Angel Parker scored the game's opening bucket, the Broncs went on a 9-0 run in the first minute and a half of play.
• Rider would continue to create distance from Niagara in the first quarter, taking a 16-point advantage, 29-13, by quarter's end.
• Niagara went 5-for-14 from the floor in the opening frame, compared to the Broncs, who finished the stanza 12-for-14.
Second Quarter
• Rider continued to succeed from the floor in the second quarter, shooting 42.9 percent, including a 50.0 percent from 3-point range.
• By the time the second quarter ended, the Broncs had a 28-point advantage over Niagara, 48-20.
• The Purple Eagles struggled from the field in the second, finishing the quarter at 13.6 percent.
• At the break, Parker and Grimshaw had five points to pace the Purple Eagles.
Third Quarter
• Niagara's offensive struggles vanished in the third quarter as the team went 10-for-22 (45.5 percent) from the field and outscored the Broncs 25-21 in the frame.
• Grimshaw scored 11 of her 20 points in the third quarter to help trim away at the Broncs lead.

Maddy Yelle, who finished with nine points, had seven in the third quarter.
• The Broncs, who went up by as much as 33 in the third, were holding on to a 69-45 advantage as the third quarter ended.
Fourth Quarter
• The fourth quarter saw Niagara continue to stay hot from the field. The Purple Eagles shot a game-best 62.3 percent from the floor in the final period.
• Niagara scored 25 points in the fourth, with 11 points coming from Parker.
• The fourth also saw contributions from Grimshaw (4),
Ally Haar (4), Yelle (2),
Olivia Mason (2), and
Marianna Freeman (2).
• Despite going 22-for-43 in the second half, Niagara would fall to Rider by the final score of 92-70.
Niagara Notes
• Grimshaw reached the 20-point plateau for the second time in three games (23 at Canisius, 1/9/22). The senior has now scored double-digit points in three of the last five games.
• Parker reached double-figures for the 10th time this season and the eighth game in a row. The Cheektowaga, NY native, also recorded her 10th game with five or more assists.
• Niagara took a season-high 79 shots, making 38 for a 38.0 percent mark from the field.
• The Purple Eagles forced 23 turnovers and have now forced 20 or more turnovers in 12 of 13 games this season.
• Saturday marked the fifth time this season that the Purple Eagles registered 15 or more steals in a game.
