Ibey Hat Trick Leads Niagara to 5-2 Win Over Cornell

ITHACA, NY – Annie Ibey recorded a hat trick in the Purple Eagles 5-2 win over Cornell (1-1-1, 0-0-0 Ivy) Thursday evening in non-conference women's soccer action in Ithaca, N.Y.

Game Recap
• Niagara (2-1-0, 0-0-0 MAAC) was aggressive to start the match leading to an Annie Ibey goal. The Cornell defender blocked Ibey's initial shot, but the clearance attempt deflected off her leg and went into the back of the net.
Emma Davies nearly found Florence Vaillancourt on a cross to make it a 2-0 game; however, the Big Red keeper beat Vaillancourt to the ball.
Clara Bornet and the Niagara backline kept the Cornell attack at bay in the first half, holding the Big Red to just one shot on goal through the first 30-minutes.
• Niagara's second goal came in the 44th-minute when Djeynaba Thiam collected a rebound and scored her second goal of the season.
• The Purple Eagles took a 3-0 lead on Ibey's second goal of the contest as she lofted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to start the second half.
Emma Bough found the head of Ida Miceli on a corner kick in the 67th-minute for Niagara's fourth goal of the contest.
• A well-executed cross from Vaillancourt found Ibey for the senior's third goal of the game, giving Niagara a 5-0 lead.
• Cornell scored twice in five minutes to cut into the Niagara lead to 5-2.

Niagara Notes
• Niagara improves to 4-2 in the all-time series with Cornell.
• The win was the 195th for head coach Peter Veltri.
• Ibey's three goals are the most in a single game for the Niagara Falls, Ontario, native. The forward now has 20 goals in her career, the 10th most in program history.
• Thiam now has two goals on the season, matching her total from 2020-21.
• Miceli's goal was the back's first of the season and first since her freshman campaign.
• Bornet made her second start in net this season, making two saves.

• The Purple Eagles will return home for a bout with the Cleveland State Vikings on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon from Niagara Field.
