Purple Eagles Downed By Siena In First Round Of MAAC Tournament

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The No. 8 Purple Eagles dropped a tough game to No. 9 Siena, 74-65, in the first round of the MAAC Championships on Tuesday.

Game Recap
1st Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles and the Saints went back and forth in the first quarter, with the lead changing 11 times.
  • Four points from Maddy Yelle and a bucket from Olivia Mason gave the Purple Eagles a 6-4 lead with a little under eight minutes to go.
  • Niagara and Siena continued to trade baskets and late in the quarter, the Saints had a one-point lead, 13-12. A bucket from Saige Glover gave NU a one-point lead, 14-13.
  • The Saints once again took a one-point lead over the Purple Eagles, 15-14, but Angel Parker sank a 3-point buzzer beater to put Niagara ahead, 17-15, at the end of the first quarter.
2nd Quarter
  • Early in the second quarter, Lore Porter made a 3-pointer to give Niagara a five-point lead over the Saints, 20-15.
  • With a little over seven and a half minutes left in the quarter, the Purple Eagles and the Saints were tied, 20-20. Two buckets from Mason put Niagara back ahead by one point, 24-23.
  • Five points from the Saints put them back on top, 28-24, but two points from both Glover and Mason tied the score once again, 28-28, with 3:23 left in the first half.
  • The Purple Eagles trailed the Saints by just two points, 33-31, going into halftime.
3rd Quarter
  • An early jumper from Parker kept the Purple Eagles within two points of the Saints, 35-33.
  • The Saints, however, went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead, 44-33, with a little over six minutes left in the third quarter.
  • With 3:07 remaining, Ally Haar began to heat up, hitting her first 3-pointer of the game to put Niagara within eight points of the Saints, 46-38.
  • Haar made another bucket with a little under three minutes to go to keep NU within eight, 48-40, but the Saints maintained the lead, 49-40, after 30 minutes of play.
4th Quarter
  • With 8:19 left in the game, Siena led Niagara, 53-44, but a trey from Parker cut the Saints' lead to just six points, 53-47.
  • Two layups from the Saints put them ahead by 12 points, 59-47, with a little over six and a half minutes to go.
  • Two free throws from Mason and a jumper from Yelle kept Niagara within 10 points, 61-51, with 5:05 left in the quarter.
  • Parker sank another 3-point shot to put the Purple Eagles down by just seven points, 62-55, with about four minutes to go.
  • Two free throws from Mason and five more points from Haar left Niagara trailing by just two points, 66-64, with 1:17 remaining.
  • The Saints, however, held the Purple Eagles to just one more point in the remainder of the game to come away with the 74-65 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Parker scored a team-high 23 points and dished out a team-best five assists. Parker scored in double figures in eight out of 11 games this season.
  • Mason and Sydney Faulcon grabbed a team-best seven rebounds each.
  • Mason added 12 points for NU and Haar scored 10 points.
  • Yelle had a team-high three steals.
