BUFFALO, NY – Jason Pineo scored twice as Niagara hockey defeated Canisius 4-0 in its regular-season finale Saturday night at the HarborCenter in downtown Buffalo, N.Y.
Chad Veltri made 16 saves to earn the shutout.

1st Period
•
Ryan Cox scored off the rebound for the game's opening marker.
Jesse Pomeroy was credit with the primary assist, his first collegiate sport.
• Niagara's second goal came late in the first on a power-play opportunity. This time
Jason Pineo took the feed from
Chris Harpur for the one-timer goal.
• The Purple and White out-shot Canisius, 12-4, in the first period. The Purple Eagles also held the edge in faceoffs, winning 11 of the period's 20 draws.

2nd Period
• Niagara held onto its 2-0 advantage as the second-period media timeout arrived. The Purple Eagles had increased its shot total to 17 for the game, while still holding Canisius to single digits in the shot column.
• The lead would increase to 3-0 in favor of Niagara, as
Brandon Stanley scored a highlight-reel goal, slapping the puck out of mid-air into the net.
• Niagara held its edge on shots in the second, putting eight on net, compared to six for Canisius.Â

3rd Period
• Pineo scored a short-handed goal midway through the third period to give Niagara a commanding 4-0 lead. HarpurÂ
• Canisius had four power-play opportunities in the game's final period of play, all of which were thwarted by the Niagara penalty kill unit.

Chad Veltri made 16 saves to earn his third career shutout win.
• Niagara finished the contest with 28 shots on goal.

Game Notes
• Cox's goal was his second-straight game with a tally. The St. Albert, Alberta, native now has six goals on the season.
• Pineo became the first Niagara skater to score twice in a single game since
Justin Kendall scored twice against Robert Morris on Jan. 9.
• Pomeroy, Harpur, and Evingson each registered two helpers in the contest.Â
• The shutout by Veltri was the third of the Pittsburgh, Pa., natives' career and first since a 5-0 shutout win over Robert Morris on Feb. 28 of last season.
