Women's Basketball Travels to Great Lake State for Two Games

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara women's basketball team will head to the state of Michigan for a pair of non-conference games this weekend. The Purple Eagles will take on Oakland Friday, Nov. 12 at noon and Michigan State Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
• Niagara earned a comeback win over Loyola on Tuesday, 81-71. Four Purple Eagles recorded double-digit points, including a game-high 22 points from Ally Haar
• The Purple and White used a 25-9 run in the third quarter to erase a 19-point deficit.
• A 20-9 run in the fourth quarter completed the comeback and sealed the win for Niagara. 
• Haar finished the game 7-for-15 from the floor and 6-for-12 from behind the arc for a career-high 22 points. 
 • Maddy Yelle contributed 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting. The senior also grabbed three boards and two steals.
 • In her collegiate debut, Aaliyah Parker reached 11 points, going 4-for-7 from the field. The freshman also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, and had two steals.
 • Her sister Angel Parker finished with 10 points, five assists, and three steals. 
 • Olivia Mason, who finished with nine points, was the Purple Eagles leading rebounder with eight.
 • Niagara won the battle on the boards, 31-27.
 • The Purple Eagles scored 40 points in the paint and 20 off turnovers.
 • Niagara shot 44.6 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from 3-point land, and 66.7 percent from the line.
 
Series History - Oakland
 Friday's contest with Oakland will be the 10th meeting between the Purple Eagles and Golden Grizzlies.
• The last meeting between the two teams took place on Nov. 25, 2019. Niagara defeated visiting Oakland by the final score of 77-63.
• Oakland leads the all-time series with a 6-3 record.
 
Series History – Michigan State
 Sunday will be the second meeting all-time between the Purple and Eagles and Spartans.
• The first meeting between the two teams occurred exactly 13 years ago, on Nov. 14, 2008. Michigan State came out on top, 116-50.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara won its season opener for the first time since the 2016-17 season when the Purple Eagles defeated St. Bonaventure 65-43 at the Gallagher Center. 
• Haar scored a career-high 22 points in the season opener, surpassing her previous career-best of 19 points that she set last season against Iona on Jan. 2.
• Parker was named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team, as announced by the league office on Oct. 19 during the annual MAAC Basketball Preseason Awards Show.
• The Purple Eagles were selected to finish seventh in the MAAC this season.
• Nine of the MAAC's 11 women's basketball programs were in action on Tuesday, and Niagara was one of five teams to start the year with a win. 
• Niagara's 81 points were the most by a MAAC team, with only Fairfield and Quinnipiac eclipsing the 70-point mark in their season openers.
