Purple Eagles Fall To The Stags

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Niagara (2-6-0, 0-1-0 MAAC) fell to Fairfield (2-5-1, 1-1-0 MAAC), 2-1, to open conference play on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Goncalo Verissimo had an early opportunity for the Purple Eagles in the second minute of play, but his shot missed its mark over the top of the net.
  • The Stags scored in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead over Niagara.
  • In the 44th minute, Ali Alomari had a strong chance for NU, but his shot was saved by the Fairfield keeper in the bottom center of the net.
  • Fairfield scored again in the 51st minute to extend its lead, 2-0.
  • In the 61st minute, the Purple Eagles got on the board. Jelldrik Dallmann scored, assisted by Verissimo, to half the Stags' lead, 2-1.
  • Rodrigo Almeida, Dallmann and Nuukele Gboe combined for the final three shots of the game for NU, but the Purple Eagles were not able to overcome the Stags.

Eagle's Eye On      
  • Dallmann led the Purple Eagles in shots with two.
  • Dallmann and Alomari each had one shot on goal.
  • Josh Savoni (2-3-0) made one save in net.

Coach's Corner
  • "I was very proud of the guys' effort tonight," said head coach Bill Boyle. "It was a very good game and I felt it could have gone either way. Fairfield is a very good team. Our guys had chances and they all gave everything they had."
