Boyle Adds Standout Trio To Incoming Class

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University men's soccer head coach Bill Boyle announced the Purple Eagles' third group of incoming recruits for the class of 2020. All three players will be immediate eligible to play this fall.
 
Gabriel Mikina | Midfield | Toronto, ON | Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School
  • Captained Canadian Select National team in tournament in Rome, Italy.
    • Played against the likes of Serie B Torino, Frosinone, and Italian national team.
    • Scored two goals.
  • Played for Rakow Czestochowa and Stal Rzeszów in the Polish first division (Ekstraklasa) in 2019.
    • Scoring two goals.
  • OSL Elite and League 1.
  • Ontario Cup and league titles U21 and OYSL.
Head coach Bill Boyle: "Gabriel is from Toronto and will be a great addition in our midfield block.  He gives us some size in the middle, but also connects the blocks with his distribution. Gabriel will compete for time in the middle right away."

  • Team captain for two years.
  • Two-time All-WNY first team.
  • 2019 WNY Player of the Year.
  • 2019 All-NYS first team.
  • 2019 All-East Region first team.
  • 2019 Section VI Player of the Year.
  • Played club with Western New York Flash.
Head coach Bill Boyle: "Ali is another local player to join us at NU, and in my opinion, was the best player in Buffalo in 2019. We are so excited to have Ali join our family, and he will find ways to score and get on the field."
 
Mikkel Thorson | Goalkeeper | Sjaelland, Denmark | Clarence High School
  • Vinson Scholarship Award winner.
  • Part of goalkeeping tandem that allowed just one goal in 12 games against ECIC I schools, helping the Red Devils to a 15-0-1 overall record and a 12-0-0 mark in league play.
Head coach Bill Boyle: "Mikkel comes to us as a Danish foreign exchange student who spent this past school year at Clarence High School. Mikkel comes from a very rich goalkeeping nation in Denmark. He will give us the best goalkeeping crew that I have ever had as a coach."
