Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Sinks Purple Eagles At Home

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Taking a well-earned 1-0 lead into the halftime break, the Niagara men's soccer team ended up on the losing end of a 3-1 result against Yale. Mackenzie Roach's first goal of the season was the lone tally for the Purple Eagles.

Match Moments
  • 10' - Matthew Krucko-Moeller Warner the game's first shot on net, only to have the chance saved by the Yale goalkeeper.
  • 25' - Mackenzie Roach opened the scoring, dancing his way around three Bulldog defenders and hooking a left-footed curl around the goalie for his first strike of the season.
  • 35' - A free kick offering from Krucko-Moeller forced the Yale keeper to extend for an athletic save that glanced off the bar and back into play. Niagara got a head on the follow-up but nodded it high.
  • 77' - On a Yale free kick from 23 yards out, Savoni saw the ball all the way in and absorbed the kick, not letting up a rebound and holding on for possession.

Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Bill Boyle: "I really think the guys showed today that they could again play with anyone as Yale is a top team in terms of RPI. We took the lead, and being our first Friday to Sunday turnaround it was very difficult for our players to grind for 90 minutes against a fresh team. But our upperclassman put the team on their backs and we saw some special performances, including some from Mackenzie, Luca, Krucko, Absa, Myer, Barry, Rafa, just to e a few. We picked up the weight of missing co-captain Jordan Acevedo. I am proud of these guys, and we could have won that game. That is the disappointing part, but seeing the upperclassmen step up today along with the talent we have in the underclassman is encouraging. We look forward to this week off in preparation for our next opportunity. We had guys hurting that left it all out there and we still could have tied it in the last 10 minutes. We are enjoying each other everyday, and we will get more and more consistent as we grow together."
