Falcons Take First Game Against Purple Eagles

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's hockey team dropped its opening game against the streaking Bentley Falcons, 3-1, on Thursday night at Dwyer Arena. The Purple Eagles kept it close the whole way, with Kris Spriggs leading all skaters by tallying six shots on goal.

Game Recap
  • Niagara generated 13 shots in the first period but had eight attempts blocked on the way to the net.
  • Early in the third, Brian Wilson made a huge save on a tough shot that was made off a feed through the crease. The sophomore netminder pushed clear across the goalmouth to turn aside a back-post tip-in and keep the Falcons from taking a 3-0 lead.
  • Jared Brandt wound up for a long shot from the point and Nic Mucci redirected it in to earn his first goal of the year in the third period to cut Bentley's lead to 2-1.

Beyond The Boxscore
  • Mucci became Niagara's 21st goal scorer of the season.
