Down to its final two games of the 2019 season, the Niagara men's soccer team goes up against Manhattan as they try to chase down the Jaspers to improve their playoff odds.

Playoff Picture*
  • With 10 points in eight MAAC competitions, Niagara sits in eighth place in the conference. Manhattan (12 points) has two games remaining and currently sits in the sixth and playoff spot. Fairfield (11 points) – Niagara's final regular season opponent on November 6 – sits between the two squads in seventh place.
  • Until they play head-to-head, both Manhattan and Fairfield currently own the tiebreaker over Niagara by virtue of the MAAC's tiebreaker policy. The Purple Eagles would need to win against each team in order to earn the primary tiebreakers.
  • If Niagara wins each of its remaining games, it would finish with 16 points and pass both Manhattan and Fairfield to earn its first playoff berth since 2012.
  • A Niagara win at Manhattan would vault the Purple Eagles past the Jaspers in the standings. The Purple Eagles would then be in a "win-and-you're-in" scenario on Wednesday.
  • A draw between the Jaspers and Purple Eagles would keep Manhattan two points up on Niagara. Regardless of Fairfield's result at Quinnipiac tomorrow, the Purple Eagles would then have to beat Fairfield on Wednesday in order to clinch a playoff spot.
  • A loss tomorrow will eliminate Niagara from playoff contention. The result would hold the Purple Eagles at 10 points, meaning they would be unable to catch the sixth-place team in the final game of the season.

Niagara Notes
  • In their last outing, the Purple Eagles were outdone, 2-1, at home by Saint Peter's on October 26.
  • With six goals on the season, Rodrigo Almeida leads Niagara and ranks tied for sixth in the MAAC.
  • The goalkeeping tandem of Josh Savoni and Nick Burke is among the best in the conference. Savoni ranks second in save percentage (.787) and saves per game (5.33), tied for third in shutouts (2), and sixth in goals-against average (1.44). Burke, meanwhile, is fourth in saves per game (5.00), and tied for seventh in shutouts per game (0.14).

Across The Pitch: Manhattan Jaspers
  • The Jaspers fell in overtime, 2-1, to league-leading Saint Peter's on Wednesday, snapping a two-game win streak.
  • Berti Fourrier leads Manhattan in both goals (5) and assists (3). His shot percentage (.185) is second on the team to Moritz Riegel's .222.
  • Marcellin Gohier has appeared in 12 games (eight starts) for the Jaspers in goal this season. In 1114:41 of action, he has posted a .697 save percentage and a 1.61 goals-against average.
*Please note that tiebreakers have not been confirmed by the MAAC and are subject to change.
