After opening MAAC play with a victory over Marist, the Niagara men's soccer team is looking to move to 2-0 in conference as they take on Monmouth on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey.

Niagara Notes

• The Purple Eagles took down Marist on Wednesday, October 2 by a 1-0 margin. Rodrigo Almeida scored his team-leading fifth goal on a turnover deep in the Red Foxes' defensive third.
• Niagara is looking to win its third consecutive game for the first time since 2012. That season saw the Purple Eagles string together separate winning streaks of three games, four games, and five games on their way to a MAAC championship.
• Goalkeeper Josh Savoni backstopped the program's first shutout since a 2-0 win over Saint Peter's in 2017. The freshman is now 2-3 on the season with a goals-against average of 1.60 and a save percentage of .733.
• Almeida is now tied for second in the MAAC in goals. The last Purple Eagle to net at least five goals in a season was Alex Dimitriu, who scored six times and added two assists during the 2016 campaign.

 
Across The Pitch: Monmouth Hawks

• Monmouth is in the midst of a two-game losing streak. The Hawks dropped a 2-0 decision at Columbia on September 27 and fell 1-0 in double-overtime to Manhattan on October 2.
• The Hawks have been shut out in each of their past three games and have not scored in their last 391:28 of play.
• Sebastian Rodriguez leads the team with two goals this season. He also has a team-best 13 shots and a shooting percentage of .154.
• Sean Murray has played every minute in net for the Hawks this season, earning a goals-against average of 1.66 and shutting out one opponent.
