Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Edge Purple Eagles

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Despite a goal late in the first half, the Niagara men's soccer team couldn't overcome a steady performance by Siena in a 2-1 road loss on Wednesday afternoon.

Match Moments
  • 14' – A long throw-in from Matthew Krucko-Moeller deep in Siena territory pinballed in the box before Absalom Solorio-Villalpando lofted a right-footed shot over the defense and on net.
  • 41' – On Niagara's second corner kick of the contest, Krucko-Moeller followed up his offering and found himself in the right place at the right time. An attempt to head the ball clear landed on the junior's cleat, and he had no hesitation, rifling the shot over the keeper and into the back of the net.
  • 66' – Niagara earned three quick chances with a loose ball right in front of the Siena net. The Purple Eagles' first two shots were blocked before the third made it past the defense but landed high and out of play.
  • 82' – The Purple Eagles caught a break when Siena's Eddie Dakwa was shown off the pitch following a red card. With the Saints down to 10 men, Niagara had a chance to claw back into the game with some time left to play.
  • 87' – After being awarded a free kick from 35 yards out, Krucko-Moeller delivered a line drive right through the heart of the Siena defense, but the ball skipped just wide of the net and out for a goal kick.

Beyond The Boxscore
  • Krucko-Moeller's tally was the second of his career, and his first ever in conference play. His first goal came as a freshman, on August 27, 2017 at Belmont. Krucko-Moeller currently leads the team with three assists so far this season, and was also tied for the team assists lead last season.

Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Bill Boyle: "We were not good enough today. We came out holding onto the ball and playing simple, and then started overplaying. We had bad turnovers, but we were still able to get the first goal. That was answered by another bad turnover that led to a foul and set piece. A penalty off that play is painful right before half. We will have to learn the hard way that our MAAC opponents will always be a grind."
