Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Purple Eagles Topped By Holy Cross, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Niagara men's hockey team was defeated at Holy Cross by a 4-1 score on Saturday night. The Purple Eagles (8-12-3, 7-7-3 AHA) got a power play goal from Ludwig Stenlund and outshot the Crusaders (4-12-3, 4-8-2 AHA) by a margin of 33-24.

Game Recap
  • Ludwig Stenlund got his second goal of the series with Holy Cross shorthanded. The Purple Eagles controlled possession in the offensive zone and Stenlund took a pass from Noah Delmas at the blue line and gunned it through for the opening strike.
  • After the Crusaders made it a 1-1 game, Reed Robinson nearly put Niagara back on top despite losing a glove in the middle of his shift. The rookie weaved a low shot through traffic and past the goalie but had the puck clank off the far post.
  • Trailing 3-1 late in the third and with Brian Wilson on the bench in favor of a sixth skater, Niko Kovachis let go a heavy shot from the top of the offensive zone. The puck was stopped but not corralled, and Dylan Mills nearly poked it in from beside the net.

Beyond The Boxscore
  • With three points (2 G, 1 A) on the weekend, Stenlund had his most productive road trip of the season. The Swede now has seven points (4 G, 3 A) in his last seven away Atlantic Hockey contests.
  • The Purple Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a 1-1-2 record against the Crusaders, earning four of a possible eight points.
