Lynchburg, Va. – Niagara men's soccer continued its season-opening road swing with a matchup at Liberty University on Friday evening. The Purple Eagles (1-4-0) were defeated by the Flames (3-2-0) at Osborne Stadium by a 3-0 score.
 
Match Moments

• 3' – Niagara came out hot early and for their effort, the Purple Eagles earned two quick corner kicks. Luigi Boa Morte's header attempt was the game's first shot, but missed just wide.
• 25' – Down 1-0, Steve Casey kept Niagara close by stretching across the goal line to take away a near-goal from Liberty. The shot from two yards out was redirected straight over the crossbar by Niagara's veteran goalkeeper.
• 71' – On a free kick, Matthew Krucko-Moeller took the shot and nearly got Niagara on the board. The sophomore's ball sailed out of reach of the keeper's hand but just over the crossbar.
• 75' – Despite being down 3-0, the Purple Eagles continued to press and create chances. Dylan Avila flicked a backheel pass to Josh Tufino to the right of the net, who then sought another forward coming in, but the pass was intercepted and poked out.

 
Coach's Corner

• Head coach Bill Boyle: "We were not as sharp as we wanted to be today, and good teams like that will make you pay. Some old habits cost us again so we will go back to work and learn from the types of issues the game doesn't let you get away with. The good thing is we go right back into a tough environment at VMI on Sunday."
