The Niagara men's soccer team (1-3-0, 0-0-0 MAAC) is back on the road for a pair of games in Virginia this coming weekend. The Purple Eagles will face the Liberty Flames on Friday, Sept. 7 before taking on the VMI Keydets on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Niagara Notes
  • These will be the first meetings between Niagara and both Liberty and VMI. In addition, Niagara's matchup with VMI will mark the first time the Purple Eagles have faced an opponent from the Southern Conference.
  • The Purple Eagles are 0-3-0 all-time against ASUN opponents. The last meeting between Niagara and an ASUN opponent was on Sept. 9, 2016, when NJIT earned a 3-2 victory at Niagara Field.
  • In addition, Niagara's matchup with VMI will mark the first time the Purple Eagles have faced an opponent from the Southern Conference.
     
Across The Pitch: Liberty Flames (2-2-0, 0-0-0 ASUN)
  • Liberty comes into the match having lost each of their last two contests. On Aug. 31, the team fell to UCF, 4-1, before proceeding to drop a heartbreaker to ETSU, 1-0 in overtime.
  • Lynchburg has only played host to one home game this season, a 2-1 victory in overtime to open the season against North Greenville on Aug. 24.
  • The Flames have only played in one previous match against a MAAC opponent, when they shutout Rider, 4-0, on Sept. 11, 2009.
  • Liberty currently leads the Atlantic Sun in average goals per game (2.0) and is tied for the conference lead in shots per game (13.0)
 
Across The Pitch: VMI Keydets (0-3-0, 0-0-0 SoCon)
  • The Keydets comes into the match seeking their first win of the season. VMI has lost each of their first three games to open up the season, falling to Longwood, Liberty and Appalachian State.
  • VMI has not registered a win in four years. Their 1-0 win on Sept. 5, 2014 against UNC Asheville is the team's last regular season victory.
  • Against MAAC competition, VMI is 6-4-0 all-time, but fell to both Canisius and Manhattan last season, 5-0 and 7-0, respectively. Prior to facing off against Niagara, the Keydets will host the Jaspers on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
