Purple Eagles' Season End In MAAC Semifinals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The fourth-seeded Purple Eagles battled the No. 1 Quinnipiac Bobcats in several tightly contested matches in doubles and singles before falling to the four-time defending champions, 4-0, in the 2018 MAAC Tournament Semifinals.
 
Match Summary
  • The doubles point came down to the No. 1 slot.
  • The Bobcats won in three doubles, 6-1, for the first win of the match.
  • In two doubles, the tandem of Ali Hutchinson and Chinnda Som broke their opponent's serve early in its match on its way to a 6-3 win.
  • Niagara's No. 1 doubles team of Stella Peisakhova and Andreea Peteu rallied from a 4-3 deficit to take a 5-4 lead. However, the Bobcats battled back to the win by taking the last three games.
  • The Purple Eagles were one game away for winning in No. 3 singles, was up a set and on serve in No. 1 singles, and was in a three-set match in No. 4 singles when the match was clinched.
  • The Bobcats won in straight sets in six singles and in two singles to take a 3-0 lead. Quinnipiac won in four singles to clinch the match as Chhinda Som was on the verge of winning in straight sets in three singles.
  • Stella Peisakhova won the first set against MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year Dominique Vasile, 6-3, and was on serve when the match was called.
  • After dropping the first set, Shannon Wong won the second set to force a third set.
