Rampado Breaks Scoring Record In Senior Day Victory Over Monmouth

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Victoria Rampado recorded 27 points en route to breaking Niagara women's basketball's all-time leading scoring record on Sunday . The Purple Eagles defeated Monmouth, 68-65, on Senior Day.
 
Prior to the start of the game, Niagara honored its graduating seniors; Jamie Sherburne, Kaylee Stroemple and Victoria Rampado.

Game Recap
  • Back-to-back baskets to open the game from McIntyre and Jai Moore gave Niagara an early 4-0 lead two minutes into the first quarter. Monmouth took the reins for most of the remainder of the quarter however and led 20-11 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles began to pick up some momentum on offense in the second quarter. Down 23-16 with 8:21 left in the half, Rampado and Stroemple each recorded four points and cut the Monmouth lead down to one, 23-22. Monmouth was up by five points, 32-27, at the end of the first half.
  • The Purple Eagles thrived in the third quarter, with a McIntyre 3-pointer cutting the Monmouth lead down to two just 27 seconds into the quarter. Down 40-36 less than six minutes into the quarter, the Purple Eagles went on a 7-0 run, headlined by another McIntyre three-pointer, to give the Purple Eagles the lead with 4:28 left in the quarter, 43-40. Tied at 45 apiece later in the quarter, Niagara went on a 6-0 run, to take a six-point lead, 51-45, with less than two minutes to go in the third quarter. Niagara led Monmouth, 52-49, going into the final quarter of play.
  • Niagara led for the full fourth quarter, leading by six with 3:02 left in the game, 64-58. On the next Niagara possession, Rampado put up a floater and sunk the basket to pass Eva Cunningham for the all-time scoring record. The basket kept Niagara in command of the lead and led to Niagara's second straight home victory.

Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 27 points and 10 rebounds to record her 13th double-double of the season.
  • McIntyre had 11 points and Stroemple added 10 points.
  • Sherburne and McIntyre led the team with five assists each.
