The Niagara men's soccer team (2-8-0, 0-2-0 MAAC) continues its season with a trip to Rider University Wednesday. The Purple Eagles head to New Jersey in hope of picking up their third win of the season against the Broncs.

Niagara Notes
  • The Purple Eagles are coming off a tough 2-1 loss to Fairfield on Sept. 29. Niagara registered only five shots during the loss with their only goal coming via an own-goal by the Stags.
  • Niagara will look to get their first win in nearly a month; their last win was a 3-1 win against Virginia Military Institute.
  • Luca Pacheco leads the Purple Eagles with two goals on the year, including one by way of penalty kick.
  • Goaltender Steve Casey has started all 10 games so far this season and has 43 saves.

Across The Pitch: Rider Broncs (3-5-1, 2-0-0 MAAC)
  • The Broncs have won their last two outings – both against MAAC opponents – to jump to the top of the conference table. They defeated Iona, 3-1, on Sept. 26 before knocking off Marist on Sept. 29 by a 2-0 count.
  • With the win over Marist, Rider head coach Charlie Inverso earned his 500th career head coaching victory. In 24 seasons at Mercer County Community College, Inverso went 434-46-14 before leaving the program to helm the Broncs in 2011. He has gone 66-62-1 in that time.
  • Elliott Otmani and Pablo Gatinois earned the MAAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Oct. 1 following the team's wins over Iona and Marist.
  • Wednesday will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the Broncs and Purple Eagles. Rider holds the edge, owning an 11-7-3 record against Niagara. Last season, the Purple Eagles took the 25th-ranked Broncs into double overtime before dropping the game, 2-1, with eight seconds remaining in the second extra period.
