Women's Basketball Downed By MAAC-Leading Quinnipiac

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball fell to MAAC-leading Quinnipiac, 84-55, on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles took an early lead over the Bobcats, but an 8-0 run by Quinnipiac stalled NU's momentum and put the Bobcats in the lead, 10-5, with over seven minutes to play in the first quarter. Despite six points from Moore, a 12-0 run from the Bobcats late in the quarter put them comfortably in the lead, 28-15, going into quarter two.
  • Quinnipiac continued to dominate the Purple Eagles in the second quarter, making six 3-pointers and outscoring NU, 26-13. The Bobcats led 54-28 going into halftime.
  • Kaylee Stroemple and Rampado made buckets to open scoring for NU in the third quarter, but a 10-0 run by the Bobcats extended their lead, 71-34, with about one minute left in the quarter. Moore and Rampado each added two more points for NU, but Quinnipiac maintained a large lead, 73-38, at the end of the quarter,
  • A 3-pointer from Rampado to open the fourth quarter started the Purple Eagles on a 7-0 run, which included a bucket from Claire Wanzer and two foul shots from Rampado and Niagara trailed, 75-45, with over six and a half minutes remaining to play. Moore scored eight of the Purple Eagles' final 10 points of the game, but the Bobcats came away with the 84-55 victory.

Coach's Corner
  • "Today was one of those days where it just really wasn't our day, on a lot of fronts," said head coach Jada Pierce. "Sometimes you have to learn some hard lessons and this is definitely a hard one to learn today about focus and mental preparedness and just playing as one. I think we'll bounce back fine."

Inside the Numbers
  • Moore led Niagara with 18 points and a career-high four assists.
  • Rampado added 17 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. Rampado went 3-for-5 from the 3-point line.
  • Wanzer led the Purple Eagles with three steals and recorded her first career block.
