Softball Falls To Penn State, 7-1

WASHINTON, D.C.—Niagara finished up play at the Capital Invitational Sunday, falling to Penn State, 7-1.

Game Recap
  • The Nittany Lions (12-13) got off to a quick start and had a 4-0 lead over the Purple Eagles going into the second inning.
  •  In the top of the second, Sarah March grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Taylor Moody to score from third with two outs and make it a 4-1 game going into the third inning.
  •  Penn State held Niagara off for the rest of the game and the Nittany Lions scored three more runs to secure their 7-1 victory.
  •  March led Niagara at the plate; she went 2-for-4 on the day and drove in the lone Purple Eagles run.
  • In the circle for Niagara was freshman Emily Johnston, who pitched 3.0 innings, allowed seven hits and five earned runs before being pulled prior to the start of the bottom of the fourth.
  •    Sophomore Jennifer Szliagyi took over in the fourth and pitched 3.0 innings out of the pen where she allowed the final two runs to cross for Penn State before throwing a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the sixth.
