Stroemple Surpasses 1,000 Career Points In Victory Over Louisiana Tech

LAS VEGAS, Nv. – Senior forward Kaylee Stroemple surpassed 1,000 career points in the Purple Eagles' 73-67 win over Louisiana Tech in their final game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles came out strong in the first quarter and, behind 10 points from Rampado, trailed Louisiana Tech by only one point, 20-19, going into the second quarter.
  • The Techsters began to pull away early in the second quarter but two points from Rampado tied up the score, 25-25, with over six and a half minutes remaining to play. With 3:06 left in the quarter, Kaylee Stroemple surpassed 1,000 career points and once again tied up the score, 31-31. With two seconds remaining in the quarter, a bucket from Kharysma Bryant put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 36-34, going into halftime.
  • The Purple Eagles maintained their lead through the third quarter. Rampado hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put NU up, 56-48, going into the fourth quarter.
  • With a little over one and a half minutes remaining in the game, the Techsters took the lead, 65-64, but the Purple Eagles were undaunted. Sherburne sank her second 3-point shot of the quarter to put Niagara back on top, 67-65, with 1:14 left to play. Two free throws from Sherburne and four from Rampado cemented the Purple Eagles' 73-67 victory.

Coach's Corner
  • "It was nice to finally have a breakthrough today," said head coach Jada Pierce. "We have gotten better. Each game we took steps forward with what we were doing. This was a great Louisiana Tech team and I explained to my players what the history and tradition is there. It means a lot to get our first win of the season against a great team like that, that went to the postseason. I'm really excited for the rest of the season."

Inside the Numbers
  • Stroemple is the 24th player in Niagara women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points and joins teammate Rampado in the 1,000-point club.
  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 27 points, tying her career-high. She also had a team-high six rebounds.
  • Three other Purple Eagles scored in double figures. Sherburne added a career-high 16 points for NU, Stroemple scored 12 and Bryant had 10 points.
  • Sherburne led the team in assists with three and Rampado and Bryant each had a team-high two steals.
  • Adila Gathers and Dagny Davidsdottir each recorded one block.
