WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Niagara men's soccer team dropped its final game of the season to the Monmouth Hawks, falling by a score of 4-0 at Hesse Field Wednesday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Joel Gerberich started the game for Niagara and made two saves on five shots on goal, while Steve Casey made seven saves on eight shots on goal in the second half. Casey closed the season with 77 total saves in 13 appearances, finishing in the top five of the NCAA with 5.92 saves per game.

Game Recap
- Monmouth scored on the game's first shot just past the three-minute mark, as Jake Areman's cross was buried near-post by Geoffrey Schaefer for the early 1-0 lead over Niagara. Areman threatened to double the lead in the 13th minute but a strong save was made by Joel Gerberich on the play.
- The Hawks' Ryan Wells deflected a free kick from Colin Stripling past Gerberich to make it a 2-0 game in the 29th minute. George Akampeke buried a cross from Zachary Pereira to push the Monmouth lead to 3-0 five minutes later.
- Niagara threatened late in the first half with a pair of chances off of Matt Lopoyda corner kicks. Alek Wendland had one shot from the set piece blocked leading to another corner from Lopoyda, which resulted in a late shot for Konrad Zydowicz, but the graduate back missed the net high.
- Monmouth's Chris Seager made two saves in the second half, denying Niagara's Matthew Krucko-Moeller in the 62nd minute and Danilo Pekovic in the 72nd minute.
- In the 80th minute, Steve Casey made back-to-back stops against Monmouth, turning away a shot from Schaefer before turning away Pereira on the rebound. Jake Treiber broke through in the next minute on a 20-yard shot set up after a corner kick opportunity from Areman to make it 4-0 Monmouth.
- Casey made two more saves to finish the second half with seven, but Niagara could not find the back of the net, taking the loss in the final game of the 2017 season.

- Matthew Krucko-Moeller, Danilo Pekovic, Alek Wendland, and Konrad Zydowicz all had one shot each for the Purple Eagles.
