Game Recap
  • Saint Peter's controlled the early possession in the Niagara zone and got off five shots in the first 10 minutes, but none went on goal.
  • Niagara opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Bautista Pedezert fed a long pass from the midfield line to Luca Pacheco, who split the Saint Peter's back line and flicked a bouncing ball over the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
  • Steve Casey made five saves in goal for the Purple Eagles in the first half, including a straight-on chance from 25 yards out by Saint Peter's' Gabrielle Bandelli.
  • With 10 minutes left until halftime, Niagara appeared to double its lead off of a give-and-go play between Mackenzie Roach and Jordan Acevedo, but Roach was called offside and Niagara remained at a one-goal lead heading into the half.
  • Four minutes into the second half, Bandelli teed up another shot from 10 yards out that beat Casey but sailed just wide of the goal. Two minutes after that, Acevedo came inches away from doubling Niagara's lead on a high shot from just inside the box.
  • In the 58th minute, Pacheco doubled the Niagara lead with a 25-yard strike off of a free kick that picked the top right corner.
  • Casey made three saves in the final minute to preserve the 2-0 win on home field for the Purple Eagles.

Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Bill Boyle: "I'm really happy for this group of guys. They have put in the work, and tonight they were rewarded with a clean sheet and some well-deserved goals. This was definitely a step in the right direction for us."

Inside the Numbers
  • Luca Pacheco scored the first two goals of his Niagara career in the win. The freshman forward had previously been held without a goal on eight shots.
  • Steve Casey's 10 saves gave him a total of 21 for the week, after he turned away 11 shots in a 5-0 loss at Canisius on Wednesday.
  • Casey's clean sheet was his first of the season. The redshirt-junior now has eight career shutouts, giving him sole possession of fourth all-time at Niagara in that category.
  • Bautista Pedezert picked up his first assist since Sept. 9, 2016 against NJIT.
