Men's Soccer Heads To Siena For Midweek Matchup

Live Video | Live Stats

After a 2-0 victory on home field over the Saint Peter's Peacocks, the Niagara men's soccer team looks for a second-straight win in Wednesday afternoon's matchup at Siena. Opening kick for the midweek MAAC matchup between the Purple Eagles and Saints is set for 3 p.m.

Purple Points
  • Luca Pacheco scored both goals for Niagara in a 2-0 win over Saint Peter's on Oct. 7, finding the back of the net once in each half.
  • It was the second two-goal game for a Purple Eagle this season, after Asante Carroll netted a pair of second-half goals to give Niagara a 2-1, come-from-behind win over Robert Morris for the team's first win of the season on Sept. 8.
  • Goalkeeper Steve Casey made 21 saves in two games last week, tying his career-high with 11 in a 5-0 loss at Canisius before making 10 in the shutout victory over Saint Peter's.
  • Casey's 10 saves in the win were his most in a shutout in his Niagara career. The Buffalo native also moved into sole possession of fourth all-time in shutouts at Niagara with eight.
  • As a team, Niagara leads the MAAC and ranks FOURTH in the NCAA with 5.82 saves per game. Casey is SECOND in the NCAA and leads the MAAC with 6.00 saves per game and is fourth in the conference overall with 42 saves.

Pacheco Earns Weekly Honors
  • Luca Pacheco was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Oct. 9 for his efforts in the win over Saint Peter's, the first weekly award for a Purple Eagle this season.
  • Pacheco tracked a long pass from Bautista Pedezert and flicked a shot over the keeper to open the scoring in the 21st minute. He later ripped a 25-yard free kick into the top right corner to double Niagara's lead in the 58th minute.
  • Pacheco's two goals are tied for the Niagara team lead with Asante Carroll and Zulfikar Karimi.

Across the Pitch
Siena Saints (2-4-5, 0-1-2 MAAC)

  • In the all-time series, Siena holds the lead over Niagara, 19-7-4. Niagara last tied Siena 1-1 on Oct. 2, 2011, and the Purple Eagles are looking for their first win over the Saints since a 4-3 victory on Nov. 7, 2010.
  • The Saints sit at 1-2-2 in their last five games.
  • Alejandro Riquelme paces the Saints with five goals and 11 points on the season, while Frank Cotroneo and Diego Ruiz are tied for the team lead with two assists.
  • Senior Aleksa Radosavljevic has played every minute in goal for the Saints. He leads the MAAC with 62 saves and is 2-4-5 this year with a 1.04 goals-against average, a .827 save percentage, and three clean sheets.
