Women's Basketball Falls To Crosstown Rival Canisius

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival Canisius, 65-57, on Wednesday night.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles and the Griffs kept it close in the first quarter. Six points from Morgan Baughman and four points from Stroemple gave Niagara a 12-10 lead going into the second quarter.
  • Canisius began to pull away from the Purple Eagles in the second quarter and held a 27-16 lead with 2:39 remaining. Jumpers from Maggie McIntyre, Jamie Sherburne and Jai Moore brought the Purple Eagles within less than 10 points, 29-20, going into halftime.
  • Sherburne sank two threes in the third quarter but the Purple Eagles still trailed, 42-34, going into the final quarter of play.
  • The Purple Eagles made a run for the lead in the fourth quarter. Rampado scored 12 points within seven and a half minutes to put Niagara behind by only five points, 55-50, but Canisius continued its momentum on offense and came away with the win.  

Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 20 points. This is the eighth game this season in which she has scored 20 or more points. Rampado also had a team-best seven rebounds.
  • Stroemple and Sherburne also added double figure points for Niagara; Stroemple had 13 points and Sherburne had 10.
  • Kharysma Bryant had a team-high two steals and Adila Gathers recorded her second career block.
  • The Purple Eagles scored a game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter.
