ALBANY, N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball team fell to top-seeded Quinnipiac, 74-51, in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championships on Friday.
"First and foremost, I want to thank the entire team," said head coach
Jada Pierce. "They did an excellent job this year of bringing it every single day and it's not easy when you have people leave a program but, just going through the adversity we went through this year as a team and learning to mesh with each other, I thought this team did an excellent job of that and we couldn't ask for anything more."
Tiffany Corselli led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 19 points.
Taylor McKay added 13 points and a team-high three steals in her final collegiate game.
Kharysma Bryant led Niagara in rebounding with seven rebounds.
The Bobcats went on an 8-0 run to start the first quarter and held the Purple Eagles to only four points; all four points were from
Kaylee Stroemple. Going into the second quarter, Quinnipiac led, 14-4. Two big 3-pointers from
Tiffany Corselli and one from
Jamie Sherburne helped start some offensive momentum for the Purple Eagles. Going into halftime, the Purple Eagles trailed the Bobcats, 33-21.
With a little over two and half minutes left in the third quarter, the Purple Eagles came within six points of the lead after a bucket from Corselli. The Bobcats pulled away further, however, and the quarter ended with Niagara trailing, 52-40. With a little over a minute remaining in the game, Corselli sank a 3-pointer, which was the final shot of the game.
