Live Video The Niagara men's soccer team returns home for a match against St. Bonaventure on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Purple Eagles stay local when they travel to play for the Big 4 Shield against the University at Buffalo at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out - Last weekend, Niagara dropped both of its road games to NJIT and Saint Francis (Pa.).
- On Sept. 11, a goal in the 90th minute denied NU its first win of the season as the NJIT Highlanders went on to win in overtime, 3-2.
- Freshman defender Koby Sapon-Amoah scored his first collegiate goal just over two minutes into the contest.
- The Highlanders netted the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 90th minute followed by a game-winning header just under three minutes into the first overtime period.
- On Sept. 13, the Purple Eagles were blanked by Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0.
- Niagara threatened with a late push for a goal in the final seconds, but shots by Ryan Myers and Fabrizio Chiari were stopped by Saint Francis keeper Marcus Rojas.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Joel Gerberich made a career-high nine saves in the match.
Across the Pitch: St. Bonaventure Bonnies (1-5-0) - Niagara is 15-29-3 all-time against St. Bonaventure.
- The teams met last season on Sept. 14, with NU getting the overtime win, 1-0.
- The Bonnies have dropped five straight after getting the win in their season opener against NJIT, 2-1.
Across the Pitch: Buffalo Bulls (3-3-1)- The Purple Eagles are 14-18-5 in the all-time series with the Bulls.
- The programs met in Niagara's home opener last season on Sept. 12. NU came away with a 2-1 victory in the inaugural game for the Big 4 Shield.
- The Purple Eagles will be playing for the shield again on Sunday. UB took the shield from Canisius following a 4-2 victory on Sept. 1.
- Buffalo opened the season with a 3-0-1 record, but is currently on three game losing streak.
- Prior to their match with Niagara on Sunday, the Bulls will host Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.
