SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles dropped both games of their doubleheader at the ACC's Syracuse Orange on Wednesday.
Niagara 0, Syracuse 11A pair of big innings of Syracuse was enough for the Orange as NU was held scoreless. SU got off to a fast start with four runs in the opening inning, including a three-run home run by Mary Dombrowski.
NU threaten in the second inning placing two runners on base but failed to score. The Orange added one run in the third and fifth to increase their lead to 5-0. In the sixth inning, the Purple Eagles got a pair of hits from
Chanelle Ward and
Sarah March, but NU failed to push across any runs.
SU had it second big inning in the bottom of the sixth with five runs, including grand slam, to end the game.
Niagara 0, Syracuse 13Game two saw SU (17-22) used two big innings to provide all of the scoring.
The Orange got off to another fast start with seven runs in the first inning on five hits. NU (1-27) only mustered two hits – a
Desarae Maldonado single in the third inning and a leadoff double by Ward in the fourth inning – in game two while leaving four runners on base.
In the fourth inning, SU scored six runs on six hits to build a 13-0 lead as NU went down in order in the fifth inning to wrap up the game.
The Purple Eagles return to MAAC play to host the Siena Saints on Sunday at Noon.
