Game NotesThe Niagara women's basketball team hosts the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in their second straight Horizon League match-up.
Home Opener• Niagara was defeated by Youngstown State University 71-54 in their home opener on Tuesday.
• Niagara struck first on offense and led for more than half of the first quarter.

Taylor McKay scored the first points of the game for the Purple Eagles, taking advantage of a rebound from teammate
Emily Granruth.
• With less than five minutes left in the first quarter, Youngstown State took its first lead, 7-6, and went into halftime leading 30-24.

Victoria Rampado opened scoring in the second half, converting a 3-point play, bringing the score to 30-27. However, the Penguins maintained the lead and pulled away in the fourth quarter.
• Leading the Purple Eagles in scoring were
Victoria Rampado and
Kaylee Stroemple, who both had 12 points.
• Stroemple also had 10 rebounds and three assists.

Simone Hobdy added another 10 points for Niagara.
• Head coach Jada Pirece said that the Purple Eagles' biggest struggle during the game was defending the 3-point line; the Penguins scored 11 3-pointers.
Last Match-Up• Niagara and Oakland last met on Nov. 27, 2013 in Rochester, Michigan.
• The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Purple Eagles 71-57.

Victoria Rampado was one of Niagara's top performers, totaling 14 points and seven rebounds in only 20 minutes of play.
• Leading the way for Oakland was forward Olivia Nash, who had 17 points and 13 rebounds.
• Guard Elena Popkey also contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists, helping secure the win for the Golden Grizzlies.
Purple Points• Niagara faces four Horizon League teams in a row: Youngstown State (L, 71-54), Oakland, Cleveland State (Nov. 27, 1:00 p.m.) and Detroit (Nov. 29, 12:00 p.m.).
• This is the third consecutive 0-2 start for the Purple Eagles.
• Niagara currently ranks ninth out of 11 teams in the MAAC; it is one of five teams to start the season 0-2.
Oakland University Golden Grizzlies (1-1, 0-0 Horizon League)• Through the first two games of the season, the Golden Grizzlies are averaging 49% behind the arc.
• Taylor Jones (Fr., G) was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week; she scored 23 points, had seven rebounds and five steals off the bench in Oakland's season opener on Nov. 13 against UM- Dearborn and 23 points and one steal against Central Michigan on Nov. 15.
• In the 2015-16 Horizon League Preseason Poll, Oakland was picked to finish fifth in the league. Elena Popkey (Sr., G) and Olivia Nash (Sr., F) were both All-League Second Team selections.
