APALACHIN, NY – To close out the Binghamton Invitational on Monday, the Niagara's men's golf team was able to improve on a strong first round to attain their best finish at the tournament in the last three years. After carding a team score of 306 in round one, the team improved by one stroke in round two to finish tenth out of 16 teams attending with a combined score of 611 (306-305).
In round two, it was senior
Jackson Lizardo's turn to post a season-best score of 72 after
Daniel Weimer posted a 72 in the opening round. Lizardo's second-round score was tied for sixth out of 85 golfers competing on Monday. The eight-stroke improvement from Lizardo's first-round score of 80 was the second-best turnaround of any golfer in the tournament, and his combined 152 placed him in a tie for 32
nd in the tournament.
Weimer finished round two with a 76 to conclude the Binghamton Invitational at a combined 148, best on the Purple Eagles and tied for 14
th in the tournament.
Christian Nizamis placed in a tie for 19
th as two consistent performances on the course led to a combined 150 (75-75).
The University of Delaware maintained their team lead throughout round two to take home the title with a combined score of 580. Rider's Aaron Simone carded the best individual score of round two with a four-under 68.
The strong close to the fall season prepares the men's golf team for spring competition. Niagara travels to the Lafayette Invitational in Hellertown, Pa. from Apr. 3-4, 2016 as well as the LaSalle Invitational in Gladwyne, Pa. from Apr. 16-18, 2016. MAAC championships will be held later in April and played at the Magnolia Golf Course in Orlando, Fla.
