Men's Soccer Concludes Road Schedule at Monmouth

With points in the Battle of the Bridge rivalry series on the line, the Niagara men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Canisius despite generating a number of scoring chances. Today, the team concludes its road schedule with a trip to Monmouth.
 
Last Time Out
  • Niagara surrendered two goals to Canisius' Nicolo Baudo on Wednesday, falling 2-0 to the Golden Griffins.
  • Goalkeeper Colin Hanley stopped two of four shots on goal.
  • Steve Pondeca had two of Niagara's three shots against Canisius, but the freshman from Tuscon, AZ could not find the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
  • Alex Dimitriu ripped a 20-yard shot off the crossbar as well, as Niagara's leading scorer has now gone five games without a goal.
 
In the MAAC
  • With three games remaining in MAAC regular season play, Niagara sits at 0-6-1 in the conference and 1-12-3 overall.
  • Niagara ranks sixth in the MAAC in saves per game with 4.00. Hanley has 32 saves on the year, and currently boasts a 1.73 goals-against average and a save percentage of .681.
  • The Purple Eagles also have 14 assists this season, good for fifth in the conference.
 
Across the Pitch: Monmouth Hawks (10-3-3 overall, 6-0-2 MAAC)
  • The Monmouth men's soccer team ranks first in the MAAC, and is also in the Top 30 of the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men's National Poll and the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll.
  • Monmouth lost three consecutive games to UMass-Lowell, Providence, and Hartford to start the year, but has since gone 10-0-3.
  • The Purple Eagles are 0-1-1 against the Hawks since the latter joined the MAAC in 2013.
  • Monmouth leads the MAAC in total goals (28) and team goals-against average (0.71).
