Box Score PITTSBURGH – The Niagara Purple Eagles fell 4-0 to the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday in the opening game of the Duquesne Invitational.
"Today we worked hard, however we made several mental mistakes in the back and were punished," head coach Eric Barnes said. "Hopefully, some of our younger players will be able to step up on Sunday and bring with them the intensity and urgency that was lacking at times today."
Niagara (1-2-0) was able to register three shots with
Andrew Ferguson putting one on net in the 20
th minute, but the Purple Eagles found themselves in a 2-0 hole at the end of the opening half.
Fergusson added the first shot on goal of the second half, this one in the 47
th minute, and the final shot on target, in the 86
th minute, to collect a pair of NU's five shots in the frame. Like in the first half, Bowling Green (3-0-0) was able to add a pair of tallies in the second on the way to a 4-0 final.
Steve Casey played in net for the final 31 minutes of action and made one save on three shots faced to bring his GAA down to a 0.68 on the season.
The Duquesne Invitational comes to a close for the Purple Eagles on Sunday with their 11:00 a.m. matchup against Binghamton.
